XBRL is to financial reporting what HTML is to the web

So who do you think the XBRL consortium turned to for a killer online marketing presence? (Answer: Bean!). We promoted this cutting-edge new business technology with marketing messaging and awareness.

xbrl homepageXBRL US is the national consortium for XML business reporting standards—the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL).

XBRL is to the financial industry what HTML is for the web. So when the SEC ruled in January 2009 that all public companies must use XBRL for financial reporting—it meant xbrl.us, as the clearinghouse for XBRL reporting standards, would be the online destination for every public company in the US.

Given the importance of these events and the lack of public understanding about XBRL, XBRL US need to educate the public on what XBRL standards adoption means and illustrate clearly how it will revolutionize business reporting.

To meet these critical marketing goals, XBRL US required a site design that was forward-thinking, well-organized and above all else easy to navigate.

We were tasked to re-architect hundreds of pages into just a few succinct content "buckets" to allow for both power users and new site visitors to quickly locate the information most appropriate for them. In addition to user interface design, we were tasked to create a new online brand for them that would drive the design of all future electronic endeavors.

The design reinforces the idea of "transparency" that is the overall tenet of XBRL. It is the marriage of sound user interface with attractive design that creates this very successful public "face" for XBRL US.
