SUPER WHY is a long-running smash hit for PBS KIDS on television, helping kids ages 3 to 6 with the critical skills that they need to learn (and love) to read! To expand the brand and give kids the fun of interacting with the show on-the-go, Bean Creative was tapped to concept and create cross-platform app games based on the characters and literacy goals of the series.
Working closely with PBS KIDS and Out of the Blue (SUPER WHY’s producers), we concepted and developed a connected game framework to highlight each character’s literary learning “super power”. The result is a rewarding, repeat-play game system with rewards that keep preschoolers engaged, delighted and motivated.
Bean Creative was instrumental in devising innovative new uses of the smartphone touchscreen interface, including the functionality that allows kids to practice writing letters on the touchscreen. This functionality was featured by onstage by none-other than Steve Jobs during the original iPad launch event.
Kids learn reading comprehension as they fix the story by dragging the correct word to complete the sentence. Kids get a kick out of seeing what happens when they choose the incorrect word, too!
